The incident took place around 2:45 p.m. Sunday when the teen damaged sheetrock walls in his home using a knife to puncture the walls numerous times and punched four holes in the walls, said Lt. Daniel Hylas,

When police arrived on the scene, the teen locked himself in a portion of the house and refused to surrender, Hylas said.

During the stand-off, the teen was threatening to harm himself and officers with knives. Officers attempted to negotiate with him for over an hour before taking him into custody, Hylas said.

The teen attacked two officers when being arrested including punching a Haverstraw officer in the face and biting a sheriff's deputy, Hylas added.

Neither was seriously injured and the 17-year-old was not injured, he added.

The investigation is continuing and additional charges against the 17-year-old including assault on an officer and resisting arrest are anticipated.

The defendant was processed, arraigned and issued a return date to the Stony Point Justice Court on March 20. Following his release, he was transported to a hospital for evaluation.

Stony Point Police were assisted by the Haverstraw Police, the Rockland Sheriff's Office and the REACT team.
